AWESOME

The Year is 1995. It’s been a year since Streetfighter: The Movie was released and Raul Julia had taken off his M.Bison had for good… Two years since Super Mario Brothers had lived up to it’s claim that “This ain’t no game” and in fact, surpassed it by proving it wasn’t really a movie either. The Curse of The Video Game Adaptation was in full swing. And along comes a film made by relatively unknown Director Paul W.S. Anderson to change the landscape of cinema. Along came… MORTAL KOMBAT! (Admit it, you heard the song in your head, didn’t you?)

Now 26 years later for “Kombat Week” we look back on Mortal Kombat, and its sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, its spin-offs, cartoons and web series’ to see if we can find what worked about this film, where others had failed, and then what went so wrong afterward.

Dion and Shao Quinn have chosen to defend the ‘Realm of Nostalgia’ here, from the assault of Peta and Jill’s forces of “Modern Sensibilities”… Who will win?  Who Cares? Dion has soundboard and he’s not afraid to use it!

A huge shout out to our roster of Killer Kombatants who pour their blood, sweat and tears directly onto the live-chat during the Twitch stream, each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEST. An especially Goro-sized thanks goes to any of you kind enough to support us by dropping you Koins into our jar via Ko-Fi! and now also subscribing on Twitch!

If you too like what we do, drop us a sub!  Every bit of your support helps us to (hopefully) keep entertaining you!

Don’t fret if you can’t be there for the recording though as you can catch them on Youtube usually later that very night. Make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss them!

The Years have not been kind to these films, but we probably have...
A singular movie that doesn't hold up too well to modern day scrutiny and a legacy of other productions with wildly swinging quality levels. A franchise of spectacular hits and misses.

Original Kombat
Great action sequences and memorable fights
Likeable characters and faithful designs to the game
The soundtrack is a total BANGER. It SLAPS hard.
Total Annihilation
The sexual politics of Sonya are SUPER problematic nowadays.
It's a basic AF plot that doesn't really make much sense when you pull it apart.
The sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihiliation is utterly godawful and not in a fun way.
