TPToA Podcast 233 – Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal & Greed

A serviceable documentary whose subject may actually be too nice to be really interesting.
It is not as shocking or sensational as it would like you to think it is, but then again, neither was Bob and this feels a lot like him; gentle, wry, skilful, with a few home truths to say, but not out to offend anyone.

Happy Little Accidents
Bob comes out of it mostly smelling of roses (aside from possible infidelity).
It is structurally sound and feels like its a story worth telling.
The impact of the man and myth of Bob ross is explored nicely.
Betrayal and Greed.
The revelations are maybe not shocking enough to really make it worth-while
The absence of an alternative narrative means it sometimes feels one-sided
Its about competitive oil painting… there's only so much you can do to make it "pop"

AWESOME

“Hello, I’m Bob Ross and I’d like to welcome you to this very first ‘Joy of Podcasting’. If this is your first time with us, let me extend a personal invitation to get ready for one heck of a ride!”…

Sadly, not words we will ever hear Bob himself actually say, but for this podcast let’s just imagine he did… ok?

Get ready for an Afro-filled deep-dive into the seedy underbelly of professional oil painting, with the Netflix documentary “Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal and Greed”.

Join in with Phthalo-Blue Dion, Sap-Green Quinny, Cadmium-Yellow Jill and Titanium White Peta for this, our own happy little accident of a show!

We’d just like to take this time to thank all, ya’ll amazing people who certainly have been kind enough to come and paint a visual picture or two with us on the live-chat during the Twitch stream. It really is a pleasure making happy little accidents with each and every one of you week after week.

We certainly do invite you, if you haven’t done so before, to join us at 7:30pm next Tuesday to start making your own beautiful worlds, where nothing is ever wrong or a mistake.

We also want to thank those generous supporters who have been kind enough to put a little more paint on the pallete for this podcast via our Ko-Fi jar and now also by subscribing on Twitch! What then? Now lets just beat that brush like it owes you money…

Or if your brush is full, drop us a sub! The More subs we get the more Emotes you get! They’re a bit like a conversational 2 inch brush… Every bit of your support helps us to keep the pallets clean, the brushes whacked and canvases wet.

Don’t fret if you can’t be there for the recording though as you can catch them on Youtube usually later that very night. Make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss them!
