TPToA Podcast 242 – Squid Game

It may not be 100% original but the characters make it worth watching.
It's SO rare to see something new and interesting crop up and overcome the language barrier so impressively. New, unattached IP's like this are what streaming services dream of.

Blue-Green tracksuits
Interesting plot and structure which keeps you enthralled throughout
Hugely interesting and investable characters to fall in love with
Stunning visuals and gorgeous production design help tell the story
Reddy-pink tracksuits
The Ending may be somewhat unsatisfying for many viewers
Some of the plot lines feel tacked-on or unimportant, which is a distraction
The English Dub on this is really cringeworthy as are some of the VIP actors.

AWESOME

Having racked up more than 111 million views (according to Netflix), without doubt the most phenomenally successful show to hit the world stage from Korea, perhaps ever, is Squid Game; the wunderkind of the days Zeitgeist, ten years in the making. Take a dash of “Battle Royale”, a splash of “Willy Wonka” and a bit of ’90s Australian Family TV favourite “It’s a Knockout!” (or “Takeshi’s Castle” for our international audience) and you’re starting to get close to where Squid Game sits. It’s not really like any of these things but they get you in the mindset.

Jill (Player 420), Peta (Player 069) and Quinny (Player 000) head to an island off the coast of South Korea to find out exactly what the Squid Game is and whether or not it’s just some old calamari.

A huge shout-out to the remaining players of our own Squid Game who chime in like their lives depend on it during the Twitch stream, each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEDT. And especially to those who have managed their finances well enough to be able to help us build a giant piggy bank of money…  Thanks for supporting us directly via our Ko-Fi jar and now also by subscribing on Twitch! (So far we have the pig.)

If you like what we do, drop us a sub!  Every bit of your support helps us to (hopefully) keep entertaining you!

Don’t fret if you can’t be there for the recording though as you can catch them on Youtube usually later that very night. Make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss them!
