TPToA Podcast 248 – The Wheel Of Time

Looks cheap... Isn't.
A high fantasy series that overcomes it's own budget issues and crappiness to say nothing of it's "cheese factor" And actually becomes (like any good hero) something quite special.

Wheel of Fortune
The characters all grow and develop nicely as the season continues
The locations and sets are incredible and they have a really unique feeling
The plot is clear enough to follow and yet complex and layered enough for diehard fans.
Wheel of Cheese
Some of the costume elements feel a bit like they were off the rack at cotton-on.
It feels distinctly televisual and sometimes lacks the scope or scale of larger budget shows
It takes a while to warm to Rosamund Pike, she is a cold fish for a lot of the first season.

AWESOME

To every thing, turn, turn, turn, there is a season. Turn, turn, turn… and the Big Wheel keeps on turning and Proud Moiraine keeps on burning. Much like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel: Never ending or beginning on an ever-spinning reel… And of course, the wheels on THIS bus, go round and round. It turns out there’s a lot of songs about wheels. But shockingly NONE of them are about the Wheel of Time!

The hugely popular book series that began in the early ’90’s and has spanned more than 14 novels (and two authors) finally makes its way to the screen by way of Amazon Prime Video. Is it the worthy successor to the High-Fantasy throne recently abdicated by Game of Thrones? Or is it a bit more in line of succession with black sheep like the Shannarra Chronicles or even worse… Spellbinder?!

Peta and Jill are the Aes Sedai of this podcast, with Quinny and Dion acting as loyal warders… Or trollops, we aren’t sure. But our special guest Rena is definitely “The Source” when it comes to knowledge of the books and as such she has allowed the magic to flow for us this turn of the wheel!

A thank you to all you mystical Aes Sedai (and Warders) who join in on the Twitch stream, each Tuesday night (or Wednesday in this case) at 7:30pm AEDT! And a special thank you to those of you in touch with the Source, you lucky ones who The Wheel has blessed enough to allow you to support us! Thanks for helping us directly via our Ko-Fi jar and now also by subscribing to our magical musings on Twitch!

If you like what we do, drop us a sub!  Every bit of your support helps us to (hopefully) keep entertaining you!

Don’t fret if you can’t be there for the recording though as you can catch them on Youtube usually later that very night. Make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss them!
