TPToA Podcast 352 – Poor Things

A childlike brain dealing with the complexities of sexual politics and the question of abuse: dangerous.
A divisive and beautifully made film that is definitely not going t be everyone's cup of tea. The Performances are interesting and the visuals are lush and creative, but there's a sickness at it's heart that nothing can hide.

In this show we are looking at the highly divisive film that has swept through the Oscars like dose of salts! From the mind of Yorgos Lanthimos, and based on the novel by Alasdair Gray, Poor Things proclaims itself to be a journey of growth and exploration for Bella Baxter, the nymphomaniacal Frankenstein’s creature of this fantastical film. Or is it a film about the sexual abuse of a minor and the systematic reduction of her autonomy? Did we like it or loathe it? Or is it something beyond either feeling? Get watching folks. it’s not an easy one to explain.

“Brought back to life by an unorthodox scientist, a young woman runs off with a lawyer on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, she grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.”

TPToA would like to invite your child-like brains and adult bodies to join in with the conversation on the Twitch stream, each week, (usually on Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEST). We extend an especially huge (and deeply weird) ‘thank you’ to any of you kind enough to support us by dipping into your savings for “the poors” and tossing some money into our jar via Ko-Fi, or subscribing on twitch… every dollar helps us pull ourselves up by the bootstraps into your echelons of society.

If you feel so inclined, get philanthropic with a sub! The more subs we get the more Emotes You get! Every bit of your support helps us to travel to dystopian Portugal by weird animated ships..

Don’t fret if you can’t be there for the recording though as you can catch them on Youtube usually later that very night. Make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss them!

What changes would you like to see us make moving forward?
